A history lasting 5000 years
Situated in the historical centre of Piombino opposite the sea, it is the main show-case for the network of Parks of the Val di Cornia and the natural completion to the visit of the Park of Baratti.
Using evocative reconstructions of the landscape, ancient activities and settings, the museum illustrates the transformations of the promontory, from prehistory to the modern era. There are over 3,000 exhibits: prehistoric manufactures, finds from excavations of the Etruscan necropolises of Populonia, and material from the Roman era, including the fabulous silver amphora (end of 4th century AD) and the evocative mosaic depicting sea creatures (dated to the 1st century BC).
Facilities: guided visits and experimental archaeology workshops on reservatrions, parking, bar, bookshop
